(mt.com) -- After a 5-3 victory over the Czech Republic in the quarter-finals, Sweden faced off against Team Canada in the semi's.
Canada got off to an early 1-0 lead from Dany Heatley's 11th of the tournament. Sweden would pull one back before the intermission as Anton Stralman netted his 3rd of the tournament.
Sweden took a 2-1 lead 2:46 into the second period with a goal from Nicklas Wallin. Canada replied with 2 quick goals from Ryan Getzlaf and Jamal Mayers to regain a 3-2 advantage. The see-saw battle continued as Anton Stralman scored his 2nd of the game to even things up at 3. Rick Nash made the game 4-3 for Canada, while Mike Green scored on the powerplay to give Canada a 5-3 lead going into the 3rd.
Henrik Lundqvist was sat on the bench for the 3rd period, with Mikael Tellqvist getting the nod, hopefully to shake up the Swedish forwards. Tellqvist was superb, stopping 11 shots in the third period. Sweden would pull within one with 6 minutes left in the game. With Tellqvist pulled, Sweden barraged the Canada zone with the extra man but could not beat Pascal Leclaire and were eliminated from gold medal contention.
Sweden will face off against the losers of the other semi-final, Finland, in the bronze medal game.
